Saturday at Pocono

Yep, it was everything I thought it would be, and more.

Neal and I drove down Friday, leaving about 2pm. Got to the hotel right off the highway about 8, and had some dinner (nothing at the hotel, so we ate some of our own food). Up at 6 to shower, pack, and take advantage of the continental breakfast. Got to the track about 7:15. It was wet, but not rainy.

Parked the truck and trailer, and found the registration table. After seeing a few people I met last week, I met Pat (mom) and Sue H, got checked in, got the transponder, and unloaded the car. Set up the canopy, got the car prepped, teched (a few minor things) and waited.

About 8:15ish it was time for brake tests for the new guys. Started her up, strapped in, and headed out to pit row. Clutch not fully engaging, but it was ok. Chirped the front tires, all 4 locked up like they should, and headed back into the paddock.

Had the drivers meeting for the new guys, learned that we'd be doing follow-the-leader stuff most of the day. We went out into the track, and got the line shown to us. All in 2nd gear. Then we started increasing the speed. I only got into 4th for a short time, and at low RPM, the first session, but it was fun. I spun once, got behind, and never quite caught up to the group.

We did the follow-the-leader stuff for a few sessions before and after lunch. Then we went out and practiced starts (rolling and stopped), and were heading in. Terry and I got waved out into the *race* with the FF/F1600/CF guys! EEK! But we were live. Had a blast, and got passed like I was standing still.

A fun day. I'm no writer, so this is a brief note, but DAMN, that was fun. Now I have a dozen things to fix on the car.
